Book Cover Design
Like it or not, people do judge a book by its cover. We understand that a first impression can be lasting, so it is important to us that we start each project by talking with you about your book and finding out if you have any ideas about what you want. Then we move onto the research stage where we will read the manuscript and look into industry trends within your genre. Finally, the fun begins. We provide you with a few options to start and use that as a jumping-off point to get to a final product you can be proud of.
Book Layout Design
The interior of a book is just like the interior of your home. You want to make sure that all the elements work together. It is the same for a book. The interior layout should reflect the style of the cover while allowing the book to be readable and easy to follow. We pay special attention to chapter openers, section breaks, ornaments, and all the little elements that will make your book look as polished as possible. If you have a book with tables, graphics, photography, sidebars, and pull quotes, then our attention to detail will bring the layout to a whole new level. VMC Art & Design takes satisfaction in making the interior of your book a perfect extension of your cover and your story.
Typesetting & Print Production
Once the design, styles, and overall look of the book have been decided, it is time to make your manuscript into a book. This is the stage when VMC Art & Design lays out the text. We pay careful attention to spacing, kerning, hyphens, and flow of the interior as well as following the guidelines set by your printer.
In addition, we can help our clients choose the best printing options for their needs and budgets. If you are doing POD (print-on-demand), digital printing, or offset printing, we can walk you through the process from getting the estimate to receiving your books.
eBook Design Conversion & Production
It is important to us that your book looks just as good in eBook format as it is in print. This is why we not only test your book on various devices and platforms, but we take the time needed to carry the look and styles into the digital format. We make sure that all visual elements are carried through to this format so that your readers don’t lose out on any of the experiences while reading your book. Just because it is digital, doesn’t mean it can’t be well-designed and look amazing.
Editing Services
For most of her life, Victoria Colotta has spent her free time with her nose in a book. No matter the genre, she has added countless titles to her To Be Read list and methodically checked them off one by one.
In 2017, VMC Art & Design expanded our services to editing. We work one-on-one with our clients in assessing the story for inconsistencies, looking at the characters' development, and searching for repeated terms, all the while looking at the manuscript as a whole in addition to the pieces that make it uniquely yours. As a bonus, you will not only get a professional editor's opinion but one from an avid reader.
Accepted Genres: Literary Fiction, Mystery, Thrillers, Suspense, Romance, Women’s Fiction, Horror, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Teen & Young Adult, Non-Fiction Biographies/Memoirs, Non-Fiction Humor, Non-Fiction Cookbooks/Food/Wine, and Non-Fiction Art & Photography. VMC Art & Design may consider the genres of Non-Fiction History, Non-Fiction Self-Help, and Non-Fiction Politics/Social Sciences depending on the content.
Accepted Writers: First-time authors, previously published authors, New York Times Bestsellers, self-published authors, traditionally published authors, and really...all authors that are serious about their book out there into the world.
All lengths (novel, series, novella, short story, etc) are accepted.
LINE EDITING
With VMC Art & Design’s Line Editing Service, we look at the content, writing style, and overall language use. It does not scour your manuscript for errors. What it does is focus on the way you are communicating your story to the reader.
Line Editing ($.0060+ per word)
The cost depends on the level of editing needed. We offer a range between Moderate and Heavy.
What the service includes:
Read through of manuscript.
Provide a detailed report with feedback about the book.
Your edited manuscript with all edits, comments, and suggestions.
Things that we will look for & will be provided in the and manuscript:
Take an in-depth look at stylistic concerns having to deal with structure, voice, and flow.
Report on the overall pace of the story and if there are areas that could be faster or slower depending on the story.
Make sure transitions between chapters, sections, and/or narrators are consistent and have a good flow to them.
Mention character inconsistencies and development issues.
Report on inconsistencies or holes in the plot.
Flag ‘hang-up’ moments and/or situations that are unbelievable for the story or character.
Look at word choices.
Report on awkward moments and/or sentence structure fixes.
Report on repeated words.
Report on any grammar, punctuation, and/or typos that were caught during reading.
Answer any questions or concerns the author provided before reading the book.

DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING
Developmental Editing is an in-depth edit for authors who want help with the big picture of their book. It is an intensive form of editing used to evaluate problems of structure and organization. It will look at if the story makes sense and is consistent. With this service, the author will work one-on-one with Victoria to revise, refine, and expand upon your manuscript. In some cases, this could lead to an overhaul when suggestions for rewrites are made.
It is important to know that your voice as an author is always respected. Even though the editing process can be intense, Victoria will do her best to keep true to your voice and style of writing.
Developmental Editing ($.008+ per word)

Developmental editing includes a free 30-minute consultation.
The cost will be based on the manuscript provided and will include one revision at no additional charge.

VMC Visual Marketing Assistant Services
VMC Art & Design is now offering a way to help you market your books!
We understand that it can sometimes be difficult to figure out how to promote your next project. There are so many options out there and it can be overwhelming. Well, guess what? We are here to help! Whether it is assisting you in setting up a Google form for bloggers, updating your website, or working with you or your PR company to design all the images you will need to spread the word, we have a way to help.
The truth is that there is no magic formula to get you a bestseller or thousands of followers. VMC Art & Design would never promise that. What we can do is help you put your best foot forward with a consistent brand, customized teasers, eye-catching banners, and an online presence that will help you get there.
VMC MARKETING ASSISTANT PRICING PACKAGES:
Monthly Plan: $40 per hour
With this plan, an author commits to contracting VMC Art & Design for 1 month. VMC Art & Design will discuss and schedule all of the needs of the client. If there is a set budget, the client will need to let VMC Art & Design know before starting so that there are no unexpected charges. The minimum cost for this service is $100 a month.
Need more consistency or a more permanent solution?
If an author commits to contacting VMC Art & Design for 3 months or more, the client will receive the price of $35 per hour. The minimum cost for this service is $100 a month.
Want to go the extra mile or have a wider range of graphic design services? Try The Bestseller Plan at $500 per month!
With this plan, an author commits to contacting VMC Art & Design for 3 months or more. There are no minimum hours for this plan, but VMC Art & Design will commit to at least 15 hours of work for the client. VMC Art & Design will discuss and schedule all of the needs of the client monthly. This plan includes extras such as book trailers, reels, print designs, and other services that might otherwise be considered part of our General Design Services (usually priced at $100 per hour).

Social Media Images
Banners, headers, teasers, etc.
Design for new releases, sales, and other promotions can be done. If images are needed from outside of the VMC Art & Design library, the author may need to provide them.
All content and verbiage should be provided by the author. VMC Art & Design will help edit and tweak core content should it be needed.
Social Media Account Management
We believe that your online presence should be a personal representation of your brand, and usually advise clients to curate their own content, especially on Instagram. However, should you want someone to help you manage the advertising posts, VMC Art & Design is willing to work with you on that.
Facebook Page: If granted access as an administrator on your Facebook Page and/or your Facebook Group, we can assist in updating banners, making posts, and monitoring the activity in the group. Promotional content should be provided by the author.
Twitter & Instagram: As mentioned earlier, these accounts tend to be more of a personal representation and it is our recommendation to maintain a presence on them to engage with your audience. However, should you want to have VMC Art & Design post on these accounts, we would need to have access to your account. The posts created will be about the business of selling your product/books and for promotional purposes only.
Scheduling: Any work on your social media sites would follow a detailed calendar that the client and VMC Art & Design come up with.
